Plenary meeting of the Coordination of Central Unions of the South Cone in
Tucuman
THE INITIATIVE FOR THE CREATION OF MERCOSUR’S WORK INSTITUTE WAS RAISED TO
THE REGIONAL PRESIDENTS.
The Plenary Meeting of the Coordination of Central Unions of the South Cone,
whose General Secretary is Gerardo Martinez, as CGT representative [General
Confederation of Labour] together with other main trade unions from
Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile that take part of it was
carried out within the frame of the Summit of Presidents held in San Miguel
de Tucuman on the 29th and 30th June.
The plenary meeting approved the introduction of the initiative for the
creation of MERCOSUR’s Work Institute, whose central activity would be aimed
at the integration and articulation, together with other social and labour
organs of MERCOSUR, employment and social security issues in order to engage
the Member States to promote and move forward the region social dimension.
Furthermore, they expressed a deep rejection from the regional trade union
movement to the new European Union’s immigration policy called “Return
Directive” which attempts to criminalize illegal immigrants.
National President, Mrs. Cristina Fernandez, received a delegation from the
Coordination, led by Gerardo Martinez, who was escorted by Susana Santomingo
(CGT) [General Confederation of Labour], Ricardp Peidró and Alejandra
Angriman (CTA) [Argentine Workers Central], for Argentina; Fernando Berasain
and José Fazzio for PIT-CNT Uruguay [Federation of Labour Unions], moreover,
Valdir Vicente UGT, Antonio Miranda (FORCA SINDICAL) and Cassia Bufelli,
from Brazil.
Mrs. President received the proposal raised by the Coordination and got
engaged to analyze and raise it to her MERCOSUR counterparts.
