MRS. PRESIDENT’S ACTION AT ILO.  MRS. CRISTINA FERNANDEZ AND GERARDO MARTINEZ CHAIRED THE MEETING ORGANIZED BY THE ARGENTINE GENERAL CONFEDERATION OF LABOUR WITH REPRESENTATIVES FROM AMERICA, EUROPE, ASIA AND AFRICA TRADE UNIONS TOGETHER WITH ITUC’S PRESIDENT.

Mrs. Cristina Fernández President of the Republic of Argentina, together with Gerardo Martinez, UOCRA’s General Secretary and Member of the ILO´s Governing Body; and Ministers Tomada and Barañao and Chancellor Taiana led the meeting with the “Group of Workers” consisting of representatives of Central Unions from all around the world. Sharan Burrow, President of International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) took part as well as 100 union leaders from all over the world representing 168 million workers.

After taking part at ILO Global Jobs Summit, Mrs. President Cristina Fernández met the Group of Workers, consisting of representatives of Central Unions from all around the world.

Mrs. Argentine President entered Conference Room XI in the Palace of Nations together with Minister of Labour Carlos Tomada, Minister of Science and Technology Lino Barañao and Chancellor Jorge Taiana where workers from American, European, Asian and African Central Unions, as well as Sharan Burrow, President of International Trade Union Confederation, ILO and ACTRAV (Bureau for Workers' Activities) representatives were waiting for her.

Mr. Gerardo Martinez, as Member of the ILO´s Governing Body and head of the Argentine Group of Workers opened the meeting by introducing Mrs. President and saying that the crisis must not be at workers’ expense and that it urges social protection to guarantee the respect for socio-labour rights as well as full employment and social justice.
Mr. Martinez introduced Sharan Burrow who, on behalf of the International Trade Union Confederation that represents more than 168 million workers, offered her vision on the “Global Jobs Pact” and thanked the President for her solidarity to workers.

Central Sindical Internacional que nuclea a más de 168 millones de
trabajadores, planteó la visión sobre el Pacto Global de Empleo y
agradeció a la Presidenta su solidaridad para con los trabajadores.
 
Mrs. President of the Argentine Nation addressed the audience and also provided strong support for an enhanced involvement of the ILO in the G20 and ratified the measures adopted in her Government in order to avoid crisis affect employment and production. “We don’t want any pink-slip telegram” said Mrs. President Cristina Fernández, and expressed her strong desire to guarantee jobs in our country.
