COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT BETWEEN UOCRA AND LABOUR MINISTRY WAS SIGNED

Yesterday, Labour Minister, Carlos Tomada, and UOCRA General Secretary, Gerardo Martinez, signed a cooperative agreement to fight “unregistered work” and to promote training activities for the Building Industry.

The Labour Ministry and the Union committed themselves to “exchanging data in order to develop coordinating training and supervision actions” in the building industry, according to an official report.

They also agreed on “training and broadcasting of the workers rights”, which includes the Plan Nacional de Regularización del Trabajo (PNRT) [official plan to register employment], that, according to the ministry, implied a raise of  39% in registered work during the last two years.

The Ministry, led by Tomada, highlighted the importance of the building industry: “It’s one of the most demanding productive activities for hand work”, on the one hand and, since it incorporates medium and low qualified workers, on the other hand, it determines life condition of the least protected people in society.

According to the Continuous Household Reports carried out by the National Institute of Social and Population Statistics [Spanish acronym INDEC], among the 2.8 million of labour posts created between 2003 and 2006, 500,000 belonged to the Building Industry.
